The Maverick Consultancy

The Maverick Consultancy was established in 2006 by Hayley Jacobs and Richard Whinfrey to provide consultancy services to the DRTV industry. Hayley and Richard have worked together for over 25 years, during which time they’ve launched and managed a number of highly successful shopping channels and direct response TV businesses, in UK and overseas, including Thane Direct UK, Quantum Television Marketing and K-Tel Marketing.

They now help new entrants to the world of direct response TV and work with established businesses to maximize their investment in the media. The Maverick team provides services to many clients who are as diverse as: Torstar – one of Canada’s largest media owners, Your Baby Can Read – a pre-school reading system and HSE – a developer of innovative high-tech products for the home.

DRTV Campaign Planning & Management

Maverick can provide overseas clients with a complete one-stop-shop, including the establishing of a UK company with full banking services, credit card clearance, VAT registration and then manage all aspects of the business. This provides international companies with a UK subsidiary without the cost of UK staff and offices.

Maverick’s network of international contacts provides clients with good quality items competitively priced and designed to meet their needs. If manufacturing is required Maverick can ascertain cost effective sources of manufacture and organise production including factory based quality control.

The Maverick Team

Hayley Jacobs

hayleyOriginally specializing in logistics and purchasing, Hayley subsequently developed her skills in product selection and development, channel management and scheduling. As General Manager of Thane Direct UK, she was responsible for the launch and day to day management of two 24 hour shopping channels which broadcast on both Sky and NTL/ Virgin Media.

Prior to working in the DRTV industry, Hayley worked in publishing and exhibitions. At Maverick, Hayley is responsible for logistics and administration, as well as client liaison, international product distribution and keeping the rest of us in check – no mean feat.

Richard Whinfrey

richardAs Managing Director of Quantum Television Marketing, Richard successfully aired the first infomercials ever broadcast outside North America. He later went on to launch and manage several DRTV companies Including Regal Shop International, K-tel Marketing and Thane Direct UK. As one of the founders of the UK television shopping industry, Richard has served on working parties with UK regulators and advertising bodies as well as being Chairman of the British Television Shopping Association, a Board Member of the Electronic Retailing Association, ERA Europe and Chairman of ERA Europe’s Government Affairs committee.

At Maverick Richard is responsible for campaign planning, media scheduling and buying and strategic planning. Prior to joining the DRTV industry Richard worked in marketing and publishing and was Marketing Director at Marshall Cavendish Partworks and Orbis Publishing.

Sue Niven-Spence

sueSue has worked in the direct response industry for over 12 years dealing with international sales and distribution and new product development. In that time, she has developed a worldwide network of distributors who have strong businesses and detailed local knowledge.

Sue holds an MBA and has lectured regularly in marketing communications at several UK universities and overseas. At Maverick, Sue’s main area of responsibility is international sales.
